Millgrove School is pleased to announce that our Early Literacy Intervention Program has started for term one of the 2010-2011 school year. We have 21 keen participants who are eager to use their reading strategies to improve their reading ability! Mrs. Verhey would like to thank all parents for taking time to sit on the couch and listen to their children read each night. This support at home, as well as in the classroom ensure reading success! RAINBOWS
Mrs. O'Callaghan will be offering the RAINBOW's program starting in the first weeks of January. This program is designed to help children deal with the loss experienced through divorce and death. If you would like more information please contact the school to receive an informational brochure.
"Building Self Esteem in Children" - Acknowledge your child for what he/she is doing right rather than criticizing them for what they are not doing.
BALANCED LITERACY
In our classrooms you may see literacy centers, guided reading groups and word wall work. This is all part of a program called Balanced Literacy.
Balanced Literacy incorporates all reading approaches realizing students need to use multiple strategies to become proficient readers.
It provides and cultivates the skills of reading, writing, thinking, speaking and listening for all students.
A balanced Literacy Program includes:
Modeled Reading (Reading Aloud) and Modeled Writing
Shared Reading and Shared Writing
Guided Reading and Guided Writing
Independent Reading and Independent Writing
MILLGROVE SCHOOL CHOIR
Every year Millgrove School Choir lead by Mrs. Davies preform at Choral Celebration in March. The Choral Celebration is a district-wide choral event that brings choirs from across the district together to celebrate music.
March 23rd, is the date to remember for 2011. Students practice on Wednesdays at recess time as well as other times that are announced during morning annoucements. Students in grade 3-4 are welcome to join.
The Choir will be leaving the school around 8:40 AM to perform at the Beulah Alliance Church in Edmonton.
